The Congolese government has issued a stern condemnation of what it describes as an attempted coup against President Felix Tshisekedi. According to a statement from the Ministry of Communication and Media, the attack was aimed at destabilizing the country’s institutions.
The events of Sunday morning in the capital Kinshasa left residents shocked. One resident, Didier Tshinzu, emphasized the importance of upholding democracy and rejecting any attempts to overthrow the government.
The government statement pointed to Christian Malanga, a self-exiled political figure, as the alleged mastermind behind the coup attempt.
The African Union’s chief also joined in condemning the incident through a statement released on Sunday. However, there has been no official communication from the Congolese presidency regarding the matter.
