On Saturday, Accra’s bustling Madina Road became the epicenter of a massive demonstration as civil society groups and citizens rallied against the city’s chronic power shortages. Timed to coincide with dusk, when frequent electricity cuts plunge several neighborhoods into darkness, the protest momentarily brought vehicular traffic to a halt.
The coalition, spearheaded by actress Yvonne Nelson and comprising entertainers, business owners, and various civil society organizations, marched through the streets to draw attention to the ongoing energy crisis.
They demanded immediate and sustainable solutions from the government to address the persistent and debilitating power outages affecting daily life and economic activities across the capital.
