Accra – A British national has been arrested at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) for attempting to smuggle substances suspected to be cannabis out of Ghana.
The suspect, a female passenger on board British Airways flight BA 2066 bound for Gatwick Airport in the United Kingdom, was intercepted while attempting to board the aircraft. Officials say she was found in possession of 32 slabs of a substance believed to be cannabis, with a total weight of 17.72 kilograms.

She has since been transferred to NACOC’s headquarters for further investigation.
This arrest follows a similar incident in which another British national was apprehended at KIA. That operation led to the seizure of 92 slabs of cannabis, weighing 53.6 kilograms, concealed in two suitcases.
Further investigations into that case have resulted in the arrest of two suspected accomplices — a customs officer and a porter assigned to the airport’s Commercially Important Person (CIP) section. Authorities suspect this section may have been exploited to assist passengers in trafficking illegal substances.
