Accra, Ghana – Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has issued a formal demand for an apology and retraction from New Patriotic Party (NPP) activist P.K. Sarpong, following claims that the minister received a Lexus vehicle as a gift—an allegation Mr. George has described as “categorically false.”
The controversy erupted after P.K. Sarpong shared a Facebook post accompanied by a video of Mr. George in a convoy, alleging that the Lexus was gifted to him—an implication that the minister had violated President John Mahama’s Code of Conduct for Appointees, launched on May 5, 2025.
The Code explicitly prohibits public officials from accepting gifts, citing the potential for compromised integrity and conflicts of interest.
Through his legal team, the Ningo-Prampram MP has denied the claim in strong terms, stating that no such gift was received and that the vehicle in question was not linked to any unethical conduct. Mr. George is demanding an immediate retraction and public apology from the NPP communicator, warning of possible legal action should the falsehood remain uncorrected.
The incident has sparked fresh conversations around political accountability, misinformation, and the enforcement of ethical standards in Ghana’s public office space.
